![]() It is a pretty secure device, but you should assume that there are vulnerability exploits and attacks that may be able to successfully infect it. So if you’re using a Mac, I think the sky isn’t falling. ![]() There are a variety of cyber threats targeting macOS specifically. So I think it is important to understand that macOS is as vulnerable, if not more, when compared to other widespread operating systems, basically Windows. Actually this is dangerous because what it does is it gives Mac users the overconfidence in the operating system and in their devices which might mean that when they’re browsing the web, checking emails, downloading and running apps, they’re not as careful as they should be when they’re not confident about their devices. So that’s kind of one reason maybe why people think, that’s kind of an old school mentality.Īlso, this is something that Apple has in the past, and arguably continues to push this mindset that Macs are more secure. Microsoft made a lot of progress to really lock down their operating system and someone argued that perhaps they eclipsed the security of macOS. First and foremost, if we go back ten years, maybe to OS X’s time, the reality is OS X may have been arguably more secure than Windows at that time. ![]() The reasons that I talk about why this is the case, basically two reasons I believe. I think it is something that is important for us to talk about. PATRICK WARDLE: That’s an excellent question. PLATE: Are Macs More Secure Than Devices Running Windows OS?
